Howth Yacht Club has just completed a €2 million project to double its boatpark area, provide a 7m wide slipway and add an extra 3.5 ton crane, enhancing the facilities to world class standards to host international dinghy and dry-sailing keelboat events such as the Etchells Worlds next year.
The 1500sq.m extension, designed and supervised by engineering consultants Roger Cagney & Associates and constructed by PML Civil Engineers & Contractors, was completed on time and on budget. The 1500sq.m extension will also provide additional winter storage for HYC marina berth-holders.
Howth has also signed a contract with Dundalk Port Company to dredge the club’s marina channel to a minimum depth of 2.6 metres below chart datum, allowing 24-hour access to all yachts to the 290-berth marina. It is expected to be completed within three weeks.
The Club is also planning towards a 150-berth expansion of the marina and recently applied to Fingal County Council for planning permission. It is a complex project involving excavation of some 100,000 sq.metres of matieral, with rock accounting for almost 70%, and is expected to cost over €6 million to complete. There are already 80 HYC members on a waiting list for berths so there is a clear demand for the added space.
